Diego Maradona's brain surgery was a success and the Argentine great is starting to recover, according to his personal doctor Leopoldo Luque.
At a Glance Sports – Diego Maradona, the Argentine legend, had surgery for a subdural hematoma this week.
The former Argentine and Napoli superstar was admitted to the Ipensa clinic in La Plata on Monday for fears of anemia and dehydration, before being transferred to the Olivos Clinic in Buenos Aires province.
“I managed to evacuate the hematoma and Diego tolerated the operation very well,” Luque told reporters after the emergency procedure.
“Diego is at a good stage. He has a small drain (for draining fluids) which we will get out tomorrow. The length of his stay in the hospital will depend on his development.
“But the start of his recovery was very good. The way he reacted after the operation was very promising. “
Later, Maradona's lawyer, Matias Morla, also gave an update on his client.
“I just spoke with the clinic authorities,” said the representative.
“Diego is fine and is continuing his recovery. Detecting a hematoma in time is crucial and it happens because of the professionalism of the medical team and the studies they decide to carry out.
“Yesterday, Diego was very worried about what was going to happen. In September, she had the same hematoma test and nothing showed up at that time. If this is not detected in time, Diego's destiny will be different. “
On a separate health issue, Morla added: “Maradona is clinically diagnosing depression. A psychologist has warned about emotional problems associated with his birthday and the pandemic. In the past few days she has been in a strange mood, very depressed.
“He missed his mother so much and it got worse as he got closer to his birthday. When we saw that things were getting worse, we decided to go to the clinic and we found a hematoma. “
