DBasia.news – Manchester United are getting closer to getting Uruguay striker Edinson Cavani ahead of the close of the summer transfer market.
The Red Devils are in the spotlight because so far they have only recruited one player, Donny van de Beek (midfielder) from Ajax Amsterdam. United have been linked with a number of names but there is no definite progress from them.
Some of those transfers that did not progress were Jadon Sancho (Borussia Dortmund), Alex Telles (Porto), and Ousmane Dembele (Barcelona). That failure forced United to 'swerve' to pursue Edinson Cavani.
“Man United are close to an Edinson Cavani deal! The deal is reached on personal terms until 2022. The final details to be sorted out are the agency fee (10 million euros) then the deal will be done. United see Cavani as an opportunity, “said Fabrizio Romano, a European football transfer expert.
Cavani (33 years) does not have a club anymore since his contract ended with PSG (Paris-Saint Germain) this summer. Cavani has defended PSG for seven years after previously defending Palermo and Napoli.
In addition to Cavani, according to Romano United, they will also recruit another Portuguese talent, Facundo Pellistri from Penarol. As for Cavani, United's previous target was not because he was being hunted by Benfica and Atletico Madrid.
However, with Cavani's agent asking for a high fee of 10 million euros, Atletico and Benfica withdrew from the hunt, placing United as the only club ahead to get 116 caps and 50 goals for the Uruguay national team.
Cavani is reportedly traveling to England for a medical and signed a contract with United. He will add experience and quality to United's front line which already has Marcus Rashford, Anthony Martial, Mason Greenwood and Odion Ighalo.
