DBasia.news – Dean Henderson is reported to have officially extended his contract with Manchester United. The 23-year-old goalkeeper is ready to compete with David de Gea next season.
Henderson was previously loaned by MU to Sheffield United in the last two seasons. Together with The Blades, the British player shone.
In his first season in Sheffield uniform, he helped his team promotion to the Premier League. Then in the 2019/2020 season, Sheffield finished in 9th place in the Premier League final standings.
Individually, Henderson's performance was also impressive. He kept 13 clean sheets and conceded 37 times, in his 40 appearances for Sheffield.
That performance makes MU tempted to send him home. Moreover, the performance of De Gea, MU's current main goalkeeper, is also on and off. Until finally, Henderson officially returned to MU. He also signed a new contract with the Red Devils, which will keep him going until 2025.
“The trust of the manager and the club shown through this contract means a lot, and will continue my development as a goalkeeper,” said Henderson, as reported by MU's official website.
Manager Ole Gunnar Solskjaer also confirmed that Henderson's arrival would enliven the competition between MU. De Gea will face tough competition from players who are 6 years younger than him. Besides De Gea, there is also Sergio Romero who will enliven the Red Devils goalkeeping competition.
“We are happy that Dean has signed a new contract. “He's had a great season at Sheffield United, where he adds experience and develops as an individual and a player,” said Solskjaer.
“We are in a strong position in the goalkeeping sector, and that provides the competition we are looking for in the squad,” explained the Norwegian manager.
Henderson's brilliant performance also led him to wear the England national team uniform. His name is back in the squad for The Three Lions to compete in the UEFA Nations League.
